Bruticus Assembles in a New TRANSFORMERS: RISE OF THE DARK SPARK Trailer

We’re a little under a month out before Edge of Reality’s Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark is on shelves, so here’s a trailer featuring a bunch of giant robots becoming one even larger robot.

The “Bruticus Vignette” shows how the five Combaticons – Swindle, Brawl, Onslaught, Blast Off, and Vortex – meet, become friends, and decide to Voltron-up into Bruticus in this gameplay trailer for Rise of the Dark Spark.

Rise of the Dark Spark is one of those “beyond-the-movie” tie-ins, with action set on both Earth and the Transformers’ home planet of Cybertron as they battle over the titular MacGuffin. The game, which runs parallel to this summer’s film, Age of Extinction (what’s with the dark titles), is a third-person shooter on consoles, putting you in the role of either the Autobots, who want to save the Earth, or the Decepticons, who want to destroy it for some reason, featuring 20 Transformers from each faction in both on and offline play.

(There’s also the 3DS game which is a kid-friendly strategy title, which sounds a little more interesting.)

I’m not even going to begin to parse the continuity on these things, but apparently, Rise of the Dark Spark is a direct followup to War of Cybertron from High Moon Studios, while still connecting the universe of the games with that of the Michael Bay films. Okay, it actually sounds way more cut-and-dry when I write it out.

It’s also the first at-bat in the franchise for Austin-based Edge of Reality Studios, who’ve spent the last few years working with EA on ports of The Sims and Dragon Age: Origins, returning to work with Activision after 13 years.

Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark will be available on the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, Wii U, and 3DS on June 24th.
