The recent cancellation of Tron 3 was heartbreaking for fans who wanted to see the franchise continue on the big screen. But if the film is ever going to move forward again, itâs going to happen without Bruce Boxleitner reprising his dual roles of Tron and Alan Bradley.
âI donât really care anymore,â said Boxleitner at the Television Critics Association Press Tour. âIâm done with it. Iâve moved on. I hate to say that but itâs been too up and down for me. I would rather not just keep going. I donât want to repeat my career anymore. Thatâd be like, âLetâs reboot Scarecrow and Mrs. King.â No, Iâm not interested. Or Babylon 5.â
Boxleitner originated his roles in 1982 as the star of the first Tron, and he reprised his title character in Tron: Legacy and in the animated series, Tron: Uprising in addition to the video games Tron 2.0 and Kingdom Hearts 2. No one can say that he wasnât committed to the franchise!
âIt breaks my heart,â said Boxleitner. âbut I understand the times move on. Disney, itâs not in their [wheelhouse] anymore. The animated series [had] a lot of promise, they didnât stick with that either. I donât think they really want it anymore. I think theyâve got Star Wars. Theyâve got Marvel. Legacy was successful. Iâm not sure that they really had that much interest anymore. I hate to say that because I think thereâs a lot more to go.â
âI donât pretend to know any of the reasons why,â continued Boxleitner. âFor me, I think itâs time to move on. I donât answer those Twitter things anymore. Fans all came to me, âWhat are you going to do about it?â I canât do anything about it. I was just an actor.â
