If you were under the impression that Brent Spinerâs Dr. Brackish Okun was dead after the first Independence Day movie, you weren’t alone. Dr. Okun certainly looked like a human pretzel after a captive alien was done using him as a mouthpiece. But Spiner is reprising his role in this summer’s Independence Day: Resurgence…and he’s not the only one coming back!
Dr. Okun’s return happens at the beginning of the newest TV trailer for the Independence Day sequel, which appears to confirm not only Okun’s survival, but also his ability to understand the language of the alien prisoners. According to the good doctor, the aliens aren’t screaming, they’re celebrating.
And what might they be celebrating? Well, it ain’t the Fourth of July! Instead, they’re probably happy about that huge alien fleet that’s about to rain down worldwide destruction, Roland Emmerich style!
Sadly, there is no Will Smith to save humanity this time. His character, Steven Hiller was killed off between movies, but his legacy lives on in his stepson, Dylan, as played by Jessie Usher. Other newcomers to the battle for Earth include Liam Hemsworth as Jake Morrison, Maika Monroe as Patricia Whitmore, Angelababy as Rain, and Sela Ward as President Elizabeth Lanford. Classic ID4 cast members Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Judd Hirsch, and Vivica A. Fox are also suiting up for the sequel. But don’t bet on everyone making out alive…
Independence Day: Resurgence will invade movie theaters on June 24, 2016.
