For a while now, thereâs a bidding war for Max Landisâ latest feature film spec script, Deeper. If it ever makes its way to production, it’s got a star in Bradley Cooper.
Cooper shot to stardom for his roles in The Hangover trilogy, Silver Linings Playbook, American Hustle, and American Sniper, in addition to the Limitless movie and TV series. White God director Kornel Mundruczo is also joining Cooper and Landis on Deeper with an eye towards helming the film.
In Deeper, Cooper would presumably play the lead character: âa disgraced astronautâ who embarks on an expedition to the lowest point on Earth in an oceanic trench where he is thrust into âa psychological and physical fight against mysterious forces.â Landis is producing Deeper with David Goyer, and bids for the movie have reportedly come in from Bold, Oddlot, Open Road, Fox Searchlight and Paramount. The early estimate is that Deeper may sell for â8 figures,â pending a greenlight for the movie.
This comes on the heels of Bright, another spec script by Landis that received an astonishing $90 million production commitment from Netflix earlier this year. Of course, the involvement of Suicide Squad director David Ayer, as well as stars Will Smith and Joel Edgerton helped push Bright towards that very lucrative deal. Weâll soon see how close Deeper gets to matching that mark.
Landis is also writing and producing the Dirk Gently TV series for BBC America, which recently cast Samuel Barnett and Elijah Wood in the leading roles.
