In addition to revealing their Comic-Con exclusives, BOOM! Studios has been making waves this week with several announcements for new projects leading up to the convention, with more to follow until Comic-Con begins. The first announcement was the return of legendary writer Mark Waid (Kingdom Come) to BOOM!, in an as-yet unnamed series in 2015, in a project Waid assures us “only BOOM! could make.” Watch Waid’s video announcement here:

The second bit of news comes from Archaia, BOOM! Studios’ award-winning imprint, who announced the October debut of the Spera: Ascension of the Starless Vol.1 original graphic novel hardcover. Eisner Award-nominated writer Josh Tierney has once again assembled some of the most talented web and indie creators in the industry for this fresh new story in the world of Spera.

Spera is a stunningly illustrated mash-up of some of the best things in life: webcomics, young-adult fantasy, retro video games, pulp adventure comics, and fairy tales. Following the three previously released volumes, Spera: Ascension of the Starless is the launch of a new, epic, multi-volume story that follows the adventures of two princesses as they once again join forces to combat a common threat. This is the perfect starting point for new readers to fall in love with Spera charcacters.

The next big bomb dropped by BOOM! was the news that the next year would see the launch of three projects with creator/writer Justin Jordan (Deathstroke, A+X, Green Lantern: New Guardians, Dead Body Road, the upcoming Spread) over the course of the next year. In less than three years, Jordan has been a prolific writer in the comics industry, having worked on titles with Marvel, DC, Image, IDW, and Valiant. The Details of Jordan’s first title with BOOM! Studios, which launches in November, will be announced on August 4th.

Next up, BOOM! announced Memetic, from writer James Tynion IV (The Woods, Batman Eternal) and  newcomer Eryk Donovan (In the Dark Horror Anthology, House in the Wall) ready to bring horror to a whole new generation this October. “A meme is an idea that spreads rapidly through various social media channels, and is usually something funny and innocuous. It was only a matter of time before a weaponized meme led to the utter annihilation of the human race… in 72 hours, to be exact.” Memetic is a three-part limited series of oversized issues (each issue covers a 24-hour period) that shows the true terror of the internet. The world will end not with a bang, but with a single online image. “With Memetic, James and Eryk show us the destructive power of the internet, a terrifying look at how imagery and ideas can shape the behavior of our culture.”
