For once, we entertainment junkies on the East Coast have something to brag about that LA just cannot top. BookCon will be happening this weekend at the Javits Convention Center in New York City, and my excitement cannot be contained. For any bookworm, it’s pretty much heaven. If you get a little high on the smell of paper and ink, this is the place for you. And don’t worry, I will be on the convention floor on Saturday to tell you about some of the con’s awesome panels.
BookCon seamlessly marries the literature lovers with the pop culture junkies and brings those of us addicted to turning pages together for two days of entertainment and drooling over books we cannot yet lay our hands on. The writers of hugely popular series like The Grisha Trilogy, The Princess Diaries, and The Lunar Chronicles (Leigh Bardugo, Meg Cabot and Marissa Meyer respectively), will be featured at live events. Additionally, Taye Diggs, Nick Offerman, Mindy Kaling, BJ Novak, Jason Segel, Aziz Ansari, and Felicia Day will also be speaking about their upcoming books.
(Personally I’m chomping at the bit to read Felicia’s book. How could I not be?)
In addition to author panels, live Q&As and other events, BookCon will also have programming geared towards very important intersections of the internet and books. John Green will be doing a presentation on the Paper Towns film. Rainbow Rowell will be having a conversation with Tumblr Book Maven Rachel Fershleiser, where they will hopefully discuss fandom, fic, and more. There will also be some pretty classic appearances from R.L. Stine and Judy Blume.
BookCon is a fairly new force in New York City thanks to the show organizers Reed POP. Last year, the show premiered and proved so popular that it has been expanded from one day to two and will have more than 250 exhibitors including ABRAMS, Chronicle Books, Hachette Book Group, HarperCollins, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, Macmillan Publishers, Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, and many more. There are still tickets available so if you are in the New York area and eager to lose yourself in a labyrinth of books, definitely check it out.
BookCon will run from Saturday, May 30th through Sunday, May 31st.
