Bond Gets Gussied Up for New SPECTRE Poster

One of the most iconic images in modern cinema is Sean Connery removing a wet suit to reveal a white tuxedo at the beginning of 1964’s Goldfinger, roundly considered one of the best James Bond movies of all time, if not the very best. The white dinner jacket and black bow tie just screams classic 007, and if there’s one thing the Daniel Craig films have yet to capitalize upon, it’s this very evocative piece of clothing. Until now, that is.

The newest poster for Sam Mendes’ SPECTRE takes us right back to the olden days with Mr. Craig sporting that selfsame white tux jacket, and with a particularly creepy image behind.

As we’ve already seen from the trailer, a portion of the new film will take place during a Dia de los Muertos celebration, and the figure behind Bond on the poster is one of the costumed folks from the parade. But the symbolism certainly isn’t lost on us, with a half-transparent version of a skeleton right on Bond’s back, looming large behind him.

This poster is very much in line with the first poster, which featured Craig in a turtleneck with a gun holster around his shoulders. That image invokes the first Roger Moore film, Live and Let Die, where he wore that exact outfit. Perhaps we’re being propelled into the past on purpose (of course we are), given that the story involves Bond learning that Christoph Waltz’s mysterious villain (who, I’m sorry, is going to be Ernst Stavro Blofeld, despite the ridiculous secrecy) is the architect of all of James Bond’s pain through the years. And Mr. White (Jesper Christensen) who first appeared in Casino Royale is still out there kicking, so it’s probably a good time for our favorite MI-6 agent to be thinking about the past.

As you no doubt know (I’ve certainly got it marked on my calendar), SPECTRE crashes onto U.S. movie screens on November 6.
