Everything is still awesome, LEGO Movie fans! It may be nearly three years before The LEGO Movie Sequel is due to hit theaters, but Warner Bros. Pictures is turning the script over to Raphael Bob-Waksberg, the creator of the Netflix’s animated original series BoJack Horseman.
Variety was the first outlet to break the news of Bob-Waksbergâs new gig, which will also be his first film project. The LEGO Movie co-directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller wrote the first script for The LEGO Movie Sequel, but the studio apparently wants to âget a fresh take,â while Lord and Miller prepare to helm the Star Wars: Han Solo film for Lucasfilm.
While itâs unfortunate that weâre gonna have to wait for The LEGO Movie Sequel, at least Warner Bros. seems committed to getting the film right instead of rushing it out to meet a release date. Plus, Bob-Waksberg will probably bring his signature absurd and irreverent sense of humor to the script without betraying the tone of the movie. It will also reunite Bob-Waksberg with Will Arnett, the star of BoJack Horseman and the voice of LEGO Batman.
To fill the five-year void between the first and second LEGO Movies, Warner Bros. is releasing The LEGO Batman Movie on February 10, 2017, with The LEGO Ninjago Movie following on September 22, 2017. The LEGO Movie Sequel will finally be released on February 9, 2019.
