Jason Blum, the mega producer known for producing low-cost genre films that usually garner high returns, will remake The Sentinel for Universal Studios, according to The Tracking Board. Released in 1977, The Sentinel tells the story of a beautiful young model who moves into a Brooklyn apartment only to find out that it is a gateway to Hell.

The original film starred Cristina Raines and Chris Sarandon’s mustache as well as a supporting cast including Christopher Walken, Beverly D’Angelo and Jeff Goldblum. The original film is filled with religious and satanic imagery as well as demons and the mental unravelling of its female protagonist, so this remake seems to be 100% in Blum’s wheelhouse. While the original is a solid movie by today’s standards and shares some things in common with classics like The Omen or Rosemary’s Baby, it could probably benefit from a modern-day adaptation. Considering that witches, demons and supernatural possession are all the rage in horror right now, it’s only fitting that The Sentinel remake finally get off the ground as Universal was trying to make one happen back in 2003.

Tracking Board also reports that the project is “currently out to writer/directors.”
