Though the premiere is still a few months away, Showtime is ramping up the promos for its upcoming horror series, Penny Dreadful. The title is reminiscent of a style of pulp fiction in 19th century Britain – fittingly, Gothic thrillers. The new series is set in Victorian London, and stars Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Billie Piper, Rory Kinnear, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, Helen McCrory, and Harry Treadaway.

The first full-length trailer features a few familiar images from the most recent teaser, but there is much more here to be reckoned with. Take a look below; You’ll catch glimpses of an intricately carved mummified corpse, vampiric orgies, our first flash of Billie Piper(!), and blood. Lots of blood.

Character details have been kept intentionally vague, but we do know the Sam Mendes-produced series will introduce a few classic “monsters”, including Victor Frankenstein (Harry Treadaway), Frankenstein’s Monster (Rory Kinnear), and Dorian Gray (Reeve Carney).

Penny Dreadful will premiere first at the South by Southwest film festival on March 9th, followed by its television premiere on Showtime on May 11, 2014.
