BLADE RUNNER 2049 Trailer Reveals That Deckard is Being “Hunted”

Thirty-five years ago, the original Blade Runner left a few unanswered questions for audiences to ponder–chief among them was whether Harrison Ford‘s Rick Deckard was human or replicant. In the long-awaited sequel, Blade Runner 2049, Deckard will resurface after three decades on the run. But there appears to be powerful forces that would have preferred Deckard remain in hiding. And they aren’t shy about attempting to permanently silence him!

The second trailer for Blade Runner 2049 has arrived, and it shows us more of the first meeting between Deckard and Ryan Gosling‘s LAPD Officer K. Despite their initial conflict, Deckard drops a very intriguing piece of information: “I covered my tracks, scrambled the records…We were being hunted.” It’s difficult to tell without the full context, but either Deckard just outed himself as a Replicant or someone wanted to eliminate the Blade Runners.

There is also the unsettling implication that the Replicants represent the future of humanity, and someone clearly wants K and Deckard dead for getting too close to a truth that could “break the world.” It appears that Deckard and K will eventually form a partnership against their mutual enemies, but they’re still ridiculously outmatched and outgunned.

Denis Villeneuve directed Blade Runner 2049 with original director Ridley Scott attached as an executive producer. The film will hit theaters on Friday, October 6.
