Björk Just Announced a Super-Björk-y New Album Titled ‘Vulnicura’

After several years, acerbic woodland sprite and musician, Björk, has announced she will release a new album in March of this year. Titled Vulnicura, the singer took to Facebook (and not, for some reason, a glacier floating down an Icelandic river covered with splatter paint and moss) to let the world into her delightfully kooky sonic mind palace’s inner-workings. Of course she had to do it semi-lo-fi, scribbling out the announcement on a piece of paper and uploading that to the site instead of just, say, updating a status. That would far too boring an act for a half-person-half-ethereal-mist-being as unpredictable as she.

The album’s songs sound positively Björk-y, with titles such as “Stonemilker,” “Lionsong,” “History of Touches,” “Black Lake,” “Family,” “Notget,” “Atom Dance,” “Mouth Mantra,” and “Quicksand.”

What’s new to the equation is the production team surrounding Björk this go-around. Venezuelan producer Arca (otherwise known as Alejandro Ghersi, who has previously worked with Kanye West and FKA twigs) produced six of the songs, co-writing two alongside our main celestial being here. The Haxan Cloak mixed the album in addition to producing one of the songs, while John Flynn contributed on a song as well.

What else do we know? There are strings involved. It will probably sound like a fever dream. And as luck would have it (it’s probably not luck), March is also the month wherein New York City’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) will open a retrospective dedicated to her career titled Björk. Running from March 7 through June 7, the exhibition will “chronicle her career through sound, film, visuals, instruments, objects, costumes, and performance.”

And it will probably be crazy—in the best way. I mean, this is Björk we’re talking about here.
