Bill Nye Film Now Most Funded Kickstarter Documentary

There are still three more days to Kickstart a documentary about the life of one Bill Nye The Science Guy, but if you don’t donate to the bow tie fund now, that’s fine. The film exploring the past and future of the first science communicator many of us ever really listened to has met its goal to become the most funded documentary ever on Kickstarter.

Pushing well past its goal of $650,000 with 72 hours to go, The Bill Nye Film has officially beaten what is now the second most funded documentary on Kickstarter — “For the Love of Spock“, a film about the life of Leonard Nimoy from Adam Nimoy, Spock’s human son. At the time of this writing, the film is pledged a little over $690,000, meaning that the public has proven that Nye’s story — where he came from, what he has done for science communication, and what his mission is now — is one worth hearing. Speaking personally, Bill Nye is the reason I try to be a good science communicator.

Many of us grew up with the geeky supernova that explained what gravity was and how earthquakes work. Now, Nye wants to “change the world” by standing up for climate change and spearheading efforts for planetary exploration. The documentary team will follow Nye for months to get the footage they need as he tours the country for lectures, debates climate change deniers, and runs The Planetary Society.

Many of the rewards for donating to the documentary are left, including signed copies of Nye’s previous and upcoming books, a chance to have Nye come to your school as a substitute teacher, and a bow tie for your dog.

Head over to Kickstarter for more information about The Bill Nye Film, because science rules.
