Over the last several years, legendary comedic actor Bill Murray has built another legendary reputation… in party crashing. Whether he’s simply dropping into a karaoke bar, actually tending a bar, joining a dodgeball game, or randomly reading spoken word poetry, Murray loves showing up places unannounced and doing the unexpected. He’s even been known to show up at the private residence of George Clooney in Lake Como, Italy just to hang out. In fact, people have ranked the best run-ins with Bill at Ranker.com as well as compiled an entire site, BillMurrayStory.com, to record it, whether others will believe it or not.
This past Memorial Day Weekend, Bill Murray added to the legend by giving an impromptu speech at a stranger’s bachelor party. While at a steakhouse, one of the party’s attendee happened to notice that Bill Murray was in the building. Murray declined drinks and a request to say something for the groom at the bachelor party from the attendee, but then made an appearance at said party minutes later. Unlike many Bill Murray stories, this one has video evidence.
Without any formal introduction, podium, etc., Bill gave some nuggets of wisdom to that bachelor party that none of those guys will ever forget. Murray started off, “You know how they say funerals are for the dead, not for the living? Bachelor parties are not for the groom, they’re for the unmarried.” He then added, “If you have someone that you think is the one … take that person and travel around the world. Buy a plane ticket for the two of you to travel all around the world and go to places that are hard to go to and hard to get out of. And … when you land at JFK and you’re still in love with that person, get married.”
I have almost no doubt that EJ, the groom, and his party wouldn’t mind reliving that moment over and over a few more times, Groundhog Day style.
Classic Murray
