Looking for a really unique holiday gift? REALLY unique? You have a day left and you need to dig deep in your wallet to get this, but here goes: On eBay right now, there’s an auction of an original Star Trek: The Next Generation Wesley Crusher trading card autographed by Wil Wheaton his own self, plus a wholly unnecessary and extraneous line right across young Wesley’s face that Wil turned into the “SUNGLASSES OF JUSTICE” (plus “YEEEAAAHHHH!” on the top).
Yeah, you want this, especially since how many items can you find that have a backstory like this one?: Paul and Storm stop by Wil’s place with burritos, Paul asks for something autographed “for a friend,” Wil goes through stuff he dug up while cleaning his garage, the cards appear, he whips out his magic Sharpie, and after all of that, Paul rejected it because he’d forgotten the name of the “friend.” So Wil is auctioning it off on eBay, sent to the winner in en envelope adorned with a Wesley Crusher stamp.
More? Okay, 100% of the sale price will go to the Pasadena Humane Society and SPCA, which does the good work of sheltering and caring for animals in the greater Pasadena-Arcadia-Glendale-San Marino-South Pas-La Canada Flintridge-Sierra Madre area (where Chris Hardwick and I worked together in radio a century ago- there’s trivia you didn’t need to know. Also, JPL had offices in the building).
How could you NOT want this? Because you do want this. And since the bidding as of midday Thursday is over a thousand dollars, a lot of other people do, too. So, if you want the card and to help the Pasadena Humane Society and ASPCA, get over there and bid now. The auction ends on Friday, November 30th — tomorrow! — at 11:45 pm PST. Go bid on Wil’s face. YEEEAAAHHHH, indeed.
@jm5150: In Chris’ podcast with Wil, Wil said he asked the writer of “Star Trek: Nemesis” why Wesley was in the movie (although that scene never made it into the final cut, of course). “I thought Wesley was riding around getting intergalactic van candy with The Traveler?” So, it didn’t make sense to the other writers or to Wil why Wesley would be in the movies given where the character was left off.
@jm5150 I imagine the reason was that Wesley Crusher was a character that was far too perfect of a person. To put such a character into any movies would make that movie greatly disliked.
Also, Wesley tested progressively worse throughout the series with the viewers.
I cant seem to find this answer anywhere on the web…”why was Wesley Crusher left out/or cut from every Star Trek TNG movie?”
