BEYOND FEST Preview: Movies, Music and Monsters

Dare I say that Beyond Fest 2015 is shaping up to be one of the most incredible genre events of the year? Not that it isn’t always tons of fun, but this year the guests that have made their way to the official line up are off the charts. It Begins Thursday, October 1, and runs through Monday, October 12, at Hollywood’s famed Egyptian Theatre and offers programming that will delight genre fans new and old. Beyond Fest is presented by Shudder, the new curated streaming service and will have a theater featuring free screenings including horror selections from around the world.

New flicks like Kurt Russell’s latest Bone Tomahawk will screen as will 2015 LA Spotlight honoree Karyn Kusama’s The Invitation. Classics like Dog Day Afternoon, Evil Dead I and II, and Better Off Dead will also make appearances featuring Q&A’s like Bruce Campbell in conversation with Edgar Wright, Al Pacino celebrating the 40th anniversary of Dog Day speaking to Brett Ratner, and our beloved Meltdown duo Jonah and Kumail will host Better Off Dead director Savage Steve Holland, actors Curtis Armstrong and Diane Franklin, and more.

As for music, this year will certainly take the cake. The Beyond is screening in 35mm featuring legendary composer Fabio Frizzi’s first performance in Los Angeles, and Lon Chaney’s grandson Ron Chaney will perform a live score to a 16mm print of the 1925 classic The Phantom of the Opera. The score has remained in possession of the Chaney family since the film’s release and will be performed for one of the first times in 90 years.

These are just a handful of the super cool events taking place at the fest this year, so for more information visit the Beyond Fest website for a full schedule and ticket information.
