Bette Midler Revived Her HOCUS POCUS Character for a Halloween Party

There may never be a sequel to Disney’s Halloween classic Hocus Pocus, but the witch known as Winifred Sanderson won’t stay dead as long as Bette Midler keeps her memory alive! This week, Midler attended a Halloween party for her non-profit organization, the New York Restoration Project. And when Midler hit the red carpet, she did so in character as Winifred!

Via AVClub, pictures of Midler in costume as her Hocus Pocus character have been making the rounds on social media, including this post from Horror-Con.

Midler certainly looked like she was having a great time revisiting her character. And why not? It’s not as if Midler has made any secret about her love for Hocus Pocus, or her desire to eventually star in a sequel. She even wore Winifred’s costume last year during her Divine Intervention Tour. That’s probably why she had the costume ready to go.

Earlier this month, we explored the rise of Hocus Pocus‘ cult status over the last two decades, delving into how the film and its signature witches took on a life of their own. There was even a Hocus Pocus-themed live show at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in Florida! So there is still an appetite for more, and Midler’s Hocus Pocus co-stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy have previously expressed interest in reprising their roles as well. It’s been a long time since there’s been any official word about a potential Hocus Pocus sequel, but we’d never bet against the Sanderson sisters. They may still get their comeback, someday.
