Bender Meets Homer in First SIMPSONS/FUTURAMA Crossover Image

Today I learned that Bart Simpson is the kind of kid to wipe his nose on a sandwich. That’s the catalyst for the November 9 Simpsons/Futurama crossover episode, “Simpsorama.”

According to Entertainment Weekly, who ran the first promotional image from the episode, the crossover will see Bender, Leela, and Fry travel back in time to present-day Springfield to kill Bart. Apparently, Bart’s sandwich boogers will end up in a time capsule where they react (badly) to Milhouse’s rabbit’s foot and a little radioactive ooze, causing a global catastrophe in the 31st century.

With its Futurama-ized title sequence, the “Simpsorama” episode will serve as a proper sendoff to the oft-cancelled series, according The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean. He explained “They were going off the air, so I thought people would really love it if we had one more chance to see those characters.” Jean added that there would be plenty of cross-series in-jokes, including one where someone finally calls out the similarities between Homer and Bender’s heads (“Like, they just erased Homer’s hair,” Jean jokes).

Futurama regulars John DiMaggio (Bender), Katey Segal (Leela), and Billy West (Fry) won’t be the only ones coming back for the one-off: Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, Tress MacNeille, and Maurice LaMarche will all lend their voices to the episode.

This will actually be the first time the characters have been on Fox since the network pulled the plug on Futurama in its fifth season back in 2002. But this isn’t the first time the Planet Express crew and the residents of Springfield have met: Bongo published the Crossover Crisis comic uniting the two universes.

How will they tackle the weirdness of people in the past being yellow? Also, stop it with the crossovers.
