Okay, normally, the case in which a DVD set is enclosed wouldn’t be all that remarkable. But the case for the limited-edition Blu-ray version of The Walking Dead Season 3 is an exception, because, this:
Why, yes, it DOES look like the Governor’s tank-full-o’-heads. MTV Geek has an exclusive report on this one, with pictures from a few different angles. Suffice to say, you’ll want this on your shelf if you’re a big fan of the show and you live with fellow fans or a very, very understanding spouse/partner/roommate. VERY understanding. (I think I can already hear my wife insisting that I have to put that thing facing the wall)
It’s another McFarlane Toys design, like Season Two’s zombie head case, and as in the case of the Michonne statue we saw last week, it was developed in close consultation with Robert Kirkman. The most interesting reveal in the MTV Geek piece is that the case design was developed BEFORE Season 3 was shot… and even before David Morrissey was cast as the Governor. They knew what was in the scripts, and created the case while the “real” thing was being built for the show.
Oh, and there’s this from Todd McFarlane: “We thought it would be fun for the consumer, after buying the case and taking it home, had to get a little interactive, because weâre not supplying the water! So youâre going to have to fill up the tanks yourself, and weâve got little hooks on the heads, so you can arrange them any way you see fit. You can hang them in a certain order, or you can just let them go to the ground and flop around. No one personâs case has to be exactly like the otherâs.â
The limited edition will go on sale later this year, although date and price haven’t been set.
I just got mine. Yes they are 3D resin heads and actual aquarium tanks you can fill with water. Uses 4 batteries for the lights. A lot larger than expected. As I tweeted on it earlier – Glorious!
The walking dead gets more and more creepier every year! Seriously way cool though!
This almost makes me want to buy media again. Almost.
OMG!!!! I need this so badly!!!!
Nothing says “good Idea” like expensive Collectables/Blu-rays + water.
How could anything possibly go wrong?
With that being said, I will take 2, thank you.
This better friggin be available in Australia!
Sorry luv,
DVD is dying on the way side…
only digital and blue ray is winning the technology battle
Are the tanks with the heads 3D ?
So sad it’s just the bluray case 🙁 DO IT FOR DVD TOO PLEASE!!
Oh…my…that would look so nice with my Evil Dead Necronomicon DVD cases! That will be mine…oh, yes…it will be mine.
