Batman fans, are you ready for the sick rhymes of Two-Face, The Riddler, The Joker, and Bane? Matthew Schwartz has written, directed, and produced âStraight Outta Gotham,â a music video parody of the N.W.A. classic âStraight Outta Comptonâ with Two-Face taking the Ice Cube role, the Riddler as MC Ren, Joker as Easy E, and Bane serving as the Dr. Dre of the piece.
According to Schwartzâs recent A.M.A. on Reddit, this video wasnât originally planned to take advantage of the N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton. Instead, it began as a showcase project for Schwartz after he was laid off from Cartoon Network.
âWhen I decided to make ‘Straight Outta Gotham,’ my goals were simple: Establish myself as a writer/director. Cultivate an audience online and gain notice from content producers. MAKE MORE COOL S*** (and hopefully get someone else to pay for it!),â wrote Schwartz.
Schwartz also elaborated on the origins of the video. âAs I had spent a large portion of my career being told ‘NO’ by the powers-that-be, I decided that now was the time to say âf*** itâ and do something that I felt passionate about, AKA something that I could oversee creatively on my own. I went about assembling an amazing team and we shot the video over the course of two very hot days in Atlanta in July….All told, my out-of-pocket expenses totaled about $5k.â
âLost my job and didn’t know what to do,â continued Schwartz. âDecided to throw caution to the wind and make a nerdy music video. Is it awesome? Is it cringe-worthy? YOU MAKE THE CALL.â
“Straight Outta Gotham” stars Cody Beasinger as Bane, Jon Silva as Two-Face, Jason Beever as The Riddler, Kyle Beasinger as The Joker, Yoko Mizuhara as Harley Quinn, John Hinson as Batman, and Gavin Richards as Robin. Mike Terrell produced the video with Schwartz.
A very NSFW version of “Straight Outta Gotham” with explicit lyrics has also been posted. If youâre up for that one, you can watch it below.
