BATMAN V SUPERMAN Prepares to Shatter Lauren Cohan’s Pearls

While she has been able to survive the zombie apocalypse (so far) as Maggie on The Walking Dead, Lauren Cohan won’t be as lucky in the DC Cinematic Universe, as it has been announced she will be playing Martha Wayne in the upcoming Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

This news adds another link between BvS and The Walking Dead, as Cohan’s new co-star Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) will be playing Thomas Wayne.

According to Variety, Cohan and Morgan’s roles will be cameos, so it is safe to assume their appearance will be in a quick flashback form, rather than a full retelling of Bruce Wayne’s origin. I am okay with that. Between 2005’s Batman Begins and Gotham last year, we have seen this complete origin story told enough times. Since his parents’ deaths are what drives him, having Bruce think back to it at least once during the film makes sense.

That does bring up a question. Even though it makes sense for Bruce Wayne to have a flashback, does the audience really need to see it? We didn’t need to see Uncle Ben die twice in ten years, should the same follow suit with the Waynes?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, starring Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and Gal Gadot, opens in theaters and IMAX March 25th.

So what do you think? Are you comfortable with this casting? Do we need to see the Waynes murdered yet again? Let me know on Twitter or get your tickets to the Mark of Zorro in the comments below.
