On Friday, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will place Ben Affleckâs Dark Knight in a grudge match against Henry Cavilâs Superman in one of the biggest superhero throwdowns in recent cinematic history. But what if there was a way for Affleck to play Superman as well as Batman?
Editor and VFX artist Todd Spence has made that idea a reality in his new parody video, Affleck v Affleck. Using footage of Affleck from Hollywoodland, Spence has cut out Cavillâs grim Superman/Clark Kent and replaced him with a younger and more upbeat Superman as portrayed by Affleck.
Hollywoodland was inspired by the legends surrounding the death of George Reeves, the actor who played the Man of Steel on The Adventures of Superman TV series in the â50s. Affleck played Reeves in Hollywoodland, but he wasnât allowed to wear a replica of the Superman suit over rights issues with DC. However, Spence has fixed that shortcoming in this video with a little effects wizardry. And now Affleckâs Superman looks like a proper superhero!
This Crisis of Infinite Afflecks instantly lightens the dour tone of the Batman v Superman trailers, and it even gives the movie some much needed color. The closing credit gag was particularly inspired: âBen Affleck created by Mr. and Mrs. Affleck.â
The real Batman v Superman is out in theaters this Friday, March 25. Check out Spenceâs other parody trailers for Mission: Impossible with Chris Farley in the lead, and a Game of Thrones meets The Princess Bride mashup.
