BATMAN: RETURN OF THE CAPED CRUSADERS Sequel Casts William Shatner as Two-Face

Harvey Dent’s dark side, Two-Face has been immortalized in the live-action Batman films by Tommy Lee Jones and Aaron Eckhart. But now, Batman’s most twisted frenemy may finally get his ultimate portrayal in next year’s animated follow-up to the recently released Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders.

As revealed at New York Comic Con, William Shatner will voice Harvey Dent and Two-Face in the sequel to Return of the Caped Crusader; which means that we’re going to get a vocal face-off between Shatner and Batman ’66 himself, Adam West! If Shatner had been cast as Two-Face in the ’60s, it would have been a great fit for West’s original Batman series. Of course, Shatner was a little busy playing Captain Kirk in Star Trek, but this neat bit of dream casting is finally going to be a reality.

Although Two-Face dates back to 1942, he was one of the few classic Bat-villains to be left out of the ’60s Batman television show. However, there were actually some plans to introduce Two-Face to that series. Sci-fi icon Harlan Ellison wrote an unproduced script for a Two-Face episode, which was adapted as a comic book series many years later. It’s not clear if the Batman: Return of the Caped Crusaders sequel will retain any aspects of Ellison’s original story, but it’s definitely something to get excited about.

We know that most of the modern voiceover roles are taped at different times, but if this project can get West and Shatner in the same room as they try to out-act each other then we’ll treasure it forever. This idea was simply too good to pass up, and we’re eagerly looking forward to watching the movie in 2017 at the same Bat-time, and on the same Bat-Blu-ray.
