Welp, hopefully you didn’t pick up the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight because, at the moment, it has a slew of issues. The PC version is experiencing significant frame rate issues, dropping to an abysmal 5 FPS at times, and those that pre-loaded the title are also experiencing multiple crashes. Those that chose to pre-load the title have had to once again download large portions of the files.
It doesn’t end there — even those using high-end Nvidia cards are plagued with frame rate drops when gliding or calling in the Batmobile. Warner Bros. has updated the required PC specs overnight to better fit this messy version. Though from the sounds of it, great specs on your rig doesn’t guarantee a smooth experience.
Fiddling around with some of the downloaded files will yield some better results, but I’m far from being any sort of expert on extraction files to verify the results. Â Peep the statement made by Warner Bros. on their community forums below:
“We’re aware that some users are reporting performance issues with the PC version of Batman: Arkham Knight. This is something that Rocksteady takes very seriously. We are working closely with our external PC development partner to make sure these issues get resolved as quickly as possible.
We’ll update this thread when we’ve got more info to share.”
Not much is said here other than WB acknowledging the problems. No timetable on fixes or at least some clarity on what you can do to alleviate said issues. From the sound of it, PC gamers might be waiting a while to truly enjoy the Dark Knight’s last adventure via Rocksteady. I’d suggest getting a Steam refund, and purchasing the game for the consoles if you don’t want to play the waiting game.
This is a great example of why console gaming still exists. Most people, including myself, are not savvy enough to mess around under the hood of a gaming rig; even the thought of having to tinker with different files is frustrating. Unfortunately, the lines seem to be blurring as the home console space now requires day one patch downloads and games no longer work straight out of the box. Maybe some of this can be blamed on quality control from publishers.
To be clear, it doesn’t sound like Rocksteady developed the PC version. The versions they are in charge of seem to be working perfectly fine. One thing is certain — people are not happy right now. Steam and Reddit communities are trashing it, resulting in some horrid user review scores.
Be on the lookout for our home console specific review of the Caped Crusader’s latest title later today. How do you feel about these issues? Make sure to stealthily make your way down to the comments section below to let us know.
