Thereâs rarely a shortage of Bat-themed heroes in Gotham City. The upcoming Batman: Bad Blood introduces two new heroes to DCâs direct-to-video animated films: Batwoman and Batwing. But Bad Blood also subtracts Batman from the mix, which forces other heroes in the Bat-family to step up and confront the new villains who are bringing terror to Gotham.
Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has released the first five minutes of Batman: Bad Blood, which establishes that a new high tech gang is forcing its way into Gothamâs criminal underworld. The first hero to confront them is Batwoman (Yvonne Strahovski), and she clearly doesnât play by the Batmanâs rules. When Batman (Jason OâMara) arrives, he doesnât exactly take to the woman who has co-opted his name and his costume. But both Batman and Batwoman find themselves completely outmatched when the leader of the new gang makes himself known. After this scene, it should be very clear why Batman isnât even the central character in the movie that has his name!
Hereâs the official synopsis for Batman: Bad Blood from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment:
“Bruce Wayne is missing. Alfred covers for him while Nightwing and Robin patrol Gotham City in his stead. And a new player, Batwoman, investigates Batman’s disappearance.” The film also finds Dick Grayson in the role of Batman with Damian Wayne by his side as Robin. And in addition to Batwoman, the extended Bat-family will welcome Batwing into the fold.”
Sean Maher and Stuart Allan are reprising their respective roles as Nightwing and Robin, with James Garrett as Alfred Pennyworth, Morena Baccarin as Talia al Ghul, Gaius Charles as Batwing, Ernie Hudson as Lucius Fox, and Travis Willingham as Heretic, the new villain briefly glimpsed in the preview scene above.
Batman: Bad Blood be digitally released tomorrow, January 19. The Blu-ray and DVD editions will follow on Tuesday, February 2.
