BALLOT BANTER: Oliver vs. Pumpkin Spice Lattes, Colbert Names the War Against ISIS, and More

This will be a Daily Show/ Colbert Report heavy edition of Ballot Banter this week since The Daily Show Podcast without Jon Stewart, Real Time with Bill Maher and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver all had the week off! Still, Stewart, aided by his Best F*cking News Team, and Dr. Stephen T. Colbert, D. F. A., had plenty to contribute to the week in news. On today’s Ballot Banter, Stewart welcomes back correspondent Kristen Schaal, Jordan Kelpper visits the UN, Colbert defends Columbus Day and interviews living legend Carol Burnett, and John Oliver posts something pumpkin flavored to his YouTube channel.

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

Democalypse 2014: Winning the Lady Vote

Kristen Schaal returns to The Daily Show to discuss how the GOP can court that ever elusive lady vote next month in the November mid-term elections. Perhaps some gender specific ads would be a good place to start?

World Buddies!

Correspondant Jordan Klepper visits the UN to unpack the issues facing the global organization, including a brand new group that everyone can join! Well, except Syria.

Obama and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad War

In case you missed it, there’s some trouble brewing in the Middle East. ISIS is still on the move and is dangerously close to taking Kobani, which, as it turns out, is not the place where yogurt comes from.

Interview: Atul Gawande

Dr. Atul Gawande returns to The Daily Show to discuss his new book Being Mortal: Medicine and What Matters in the End and details his own experiences with end of life decisions that are both personal and professional.

The Colbert Report

Columbus Day Under Attack

While most children across the country enjoy a day off of school and retail stores enjoy putting items on sale, noted American holiday Columbus Day finds itself under attack, and noted American Stephen Colbert doesn’t appreciate that one bit!

Republicans Are People Too

As the Republicans prepare for the mid-term elections, they also address their image issue with a series of new ads that tell voters, “Republicans are people too.” Stock photo people, but still, people too.

Naming The War Against ISIS

What’s in a name? A lot when it comes to a war, and the conflict with ISIS still doesn’t have one. Leave it to Stephen to fix that problem in the most thoughtful of ways.

Interview: Carol Burnett

What needs to be said about Carol Burnett except that she is a living legend? History is discussed, laughs are had, and F bombs are dropped on The Colbert Report.

The Daily Show Podcast without Jon Stewart

The Daily Show Podcast without Jon Stewart is off this week.

Real Time with Bill Maher

Real Time with Bill Maher is off this week.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver

Pumpkins Spice

Although Last Week Tonight is off this week, Oliver released this video exclusively on the web addressing our cultural obsession with the Pumpkin Spice Latte. Anyone who lives in Los Angeles can relate to the misery of Starbucks bringing the drink back early just in time for our record setting 107+ degree heatwave that came at the end of September. Yay fall!
