The Nerdbowl of 2015 that was Back to the Future Day has come and gone, but that doesnât mean we are done celebrating one of the great American cinematic franchises of all-time. And this newest short video tries to do just that by adding a little dose of today’s reality into the films.
In this version of Back to the Future Part II, instead of Jaws 19, Marty finds himself cowering in fear at the yearâs biggest hit, Jurassic World. Also, instead of Biff as the owner of the Pleasure Paradise Casino and Hotel, we find an actual casino owner with his own hair issues that feels way more pertinent to IRL 2015.
The creator, YouTube user PistolShrimps (who just so happens to give itself credit for “directing” Jurassic World on the marquee), notes they’re well aware that the Biff Tannen-Casino-Owner era actually occurred in an alternate 1985ânot 2015âbut weâll let it slide. The Tannen/Trump comparison is too hard to pass up. I mean c’mon:
As for their Jurassic World taglineâ”It can’t possibly go wrong again”âwe have to say that in this weird fictional/reality mash-up, movie slogans seem a little bit more self-aware. “The park is open” is good, but “It canât possibly go wrong again” feels more honest and meta.
The deluge of Back to the Future tributes and videos we got last month might be the apex of honors the films receive, but with all of that renewed attention, they surely won’t be the last.
What other real 2015 updates could you slide into the movie? Share your best ideas in the comments.
