Back to the Future writer Bob Gale and director, Robert Zemeckis have let it be known that there won’t be a remake as long as they have anything to say about it. And rightfully so, since it’s a genuine classic. But that doesn’t mean that some fans can’t have a little musical fun with the misadventures of Marty McFly and Doc Brown!
CineFix has released a video that imagines Back to the Future as a Broadway style musical, as part of the ongoing Homemade Movies series directed by Dustin McLean. For this installment, McLean starred as Marty and he co-wrote the video with Piotr Michael, who was featured as Doc Brown with an intentionally cheesy wig and bald cap.
Their song, “Great Scott!,” picks up fairly late in the story of the original Back to the Future, as Marty attempts to warn Doc about the dark fate awaiting him in 1985. Looking back at the film, it’s actually a very clever conflict for Marty and Doc to deal with. Because as much as Marty needed his parents to hook up, he risked everything to save his friend and mentor as well. “Great Scott!” treats Doc and Marty’s clash as if it were the story’s defining moment, and the argument could easily be made that it was.
CineFix also posted a behind-the-scenes clip about the making of this video, which is equally entertaining.
What did you think about the Back to the Future parody? Only leave a comment below if it won’t cause a temporal paradox and destroy the time-space continuum as we know it. You’ve been warned!
