The Fast and Furious film franchise has never gotten any official action figures, but that didn’t stop the crew at Counter 656 from applying their brand of stop-motion magic to this unique TV spot. Lego versions of Brian and Dom race and drift for glory…and to promote Taiwan’s EBC movie channel’s broadcasting of the movies.
You might remember Counter 656 from such glorious viral videos (involving toys) as Batman vs. Joker…
…Superman vs. Predator (proving Hot Toys can and should be taken out of the package, despite their intricacies)…
…and Cell vs. Gohan.
Thanks to the super-poseability of most Asian action figures, they don’t even need to be doctored the way so many of the figures on Robot Chicken are to achieve difficult poses. And it’s great that most of these battles happen across kitchen and living-room floors–it keeps you aware at all times that these are toys being played with, even as disbelief is momentarily suspended in regards to their sentience.
This has us wanting a Lego Fast and Furious movie now, though given how tongue-in-cheek the series has become, maybe a toy version wouldn’t be all that different? How about Lego just makes the sets, and we shoot our own movies? That way you can finally indulge your Hobbs/Dom shipping instincts in a way the live-action version will never dare.
More TV channels should be this creative with their movie promos, am I right? What toys would you like to see come to life and do battle next? Drift down 2 comments and fire off a fast response to let us know.
