5 of the Original Avengers Get Matching Tattoos to Commemorate AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR

The OG movie Avengers just got matching tattoos. Well, all but one of them. But this has all happened before, and it will all happen again. Back in 2001, the actors who played the nine members of the Fellowship from the Lord of the Rings cast commemorated the end of filming of their epic, groundbreaking saga by getting matching tattoos together, the number 9 in Elvish. Well, all but one of them — actor John Rhys Davies, a.k.a. Gimli, opted out, and had his stunt double do it instead (yes, really).

Well folks, history is repeating itself, because we’ve just learned, via Entertainment Weekly, that that five of the six original members of the AvengersRobert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, and Jeremy Renner — all just got matching Avengers logo tats, to celebrate the end of filming the back to back Avengers films, and the release of Avengers: Infinity War. Yes, Mark Ruffalo opted out. No tats for the Hulk it seems. You can see RDJ getting his tattoo in the Instagram video above.

A sixth person did get an Avengers tat though, it just wasn’t Ruffalo. According to RDJ,  “the sixth was the tattoo artist, who gave it to five of us.” The whole thing was Scarlett Johansson’s idea apparently, and the tattoo artist was Josh Lord, an east coast based artist that inked both Chris Evans and Scarlett in New York, and then flew to L.A. where he did the same for RDJ and Jeremy Renner, and eventually the two “bullied” Chris Hemsworth into doing it. Apparently though, no one can bully the Hulk. Hulk do what Hulk wants.

In turn, each of the actors contributed to giving artist Josh Lord the sixth tattoo that he designed. According to Robert Downey Jr., “each one of us drew a line on the artist with his own tattoo gun and it was a total massacre.” Eeek. That’s the one we want to see! Although even if it’s terrible, you get to tell people the rest of your life the Avengers gave you a tattoo. That’s gotta be pretty cool.
