AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER Fan Film Looks as Fierce as an Agni Ki

If you, like me, are an Avatar: The Last Airbender devotee who has apprehensions about the forthcoming live-action adaptation, here’s something to ease your worries. Re:Anime, a production company “by anime fans, for anime fans” that puts together recreations of famous anime scenes, is branching out slightly to take on A:TLA—and, from the look of these set photos, it’s going to be incredible.

Per Re:Anime’s YouTube page, the company was created in direct response to Hollywood’s misrepresentation of their favorite shows’ characters and cultures. And in what looks to be this recreation of Azula and Zuko’s fateful Agni Kai, they’ve certainly rectified at least the visual mistakes made by M. Night Shyamalan in his less-than-satisfactory attempt to adapt the story for the big screen.

Nikki SooHoo and Yoshi Sudarso are dead ringers for Azula and Zuko. I keep a pretty close eye on A:TLA cosplayers at cons, particularly the ones who take on Zuko, and I can’t help admiring the makeup work here on the scar. Even their respective expressions are perfect here.

The interpretation of Katara is a bit looser—where are your hair loopies, Katara?—but Yasmin Kassim is definitely making it work.

The trailer for the recreation drops this coming week. We’ll keep you posted on how awesome it turns out to be. But what do you think so far? Apparate your thoughts in comments below.
