Aubrey Plaza Will Stalk Elizabeth Olsen in a Social Media-Themed Dark Comedy

Fans of social media and dark comedies can rejoice. The Hollywood Reporter has announced that Parks and Recreation alum Aubrey Plaza and the Marvel Cinematic Universe‘s own Elizabeth Olsen will play opposite each other in Ingrid Goes West, a new ‘net-themed dark comedy shooting in Los Angeles.

Details on the production are still pretty light, but we do know a basic storyline. Plaza will play Ingrid, a young woman on the verge of obsession with a social media starlet played by Olsen. Ingrid’s obsession reaches a whole new level when she packs up her life and moves to Los Angeles to befriend Olsen’s Taylor Sloane, the young woman with a seemingly perfect life. As with all dark comedies, Ingrid’s arrival on the West Coast sparks a series of events that lead the young women down increasingly disturbing and dangerous paths.

Plaza will produce the film, which was written by Matt Spicer and David Branson Smith. Spicer will make the project his feature film directorial debut.

The movie does not yet have a release date, but the timing of a story steeped in social media stardom could not come at a more opportune moment, as stars of YouTube, Twitch, Twitter, and more occupy an increasingly high profile in the public eye. They influence national and international conversations, and drive millions of eyes towards the products and events they love. Could any moment be more primed for a stark and comedic look at what happens when fan obsession goes too far?

Olsen and Plaza have proven track records of excellent comedic timing and solid acting chops so this movie-goer eagerly awaits more details and a release date to look forward to in the coming months. Is this one you will find the time to catch in the theater? Tell us in the comments below.
