Artist Builds Papercraft Replica of Studio Ghibli Museum

Nestled in the heart of Mitaka, Tokyo’s Inokashira Park is a truly holy site for anime lovers. The Ghibli Museum has been a major destination for fans of Hayao Miyazaki’s Studio Ghibli and their films since it opened in 2001. The museum has been a beacon of admiration for both the films and shows that have made Ghibli such a mainstay in animation, and also for the process of animation as a whole. Visitors can tour the ground floor of the museum, learning about the history of animation as an art form and see the process that artists at Studio Ghibli go through to bring their favorite characters to life. With how wildly popular the museum is, and how crowded it can get, visitors might have a difficult time seeing everything it has to offer in one visit. If only they could take that museum home with them. Well, now they can.

Inside of the Ghibli Museum, like so many museums that came before it, is a gift shop that offers specialty items that patrons can not find anywhere else. Among these keepsakes based on beloved characters and films sits the Ghibli Museum Minituart kit. This papercraft diorama of the museum goes into painstaking detail in recreating the museum at a 1/250 scale of the original. All of the most memorable sections of the museum’s exterior, from the Totoro ticket booth to the giant robot in the rooftop garden, are recreated in miniature and are able to be enjoyed without having to wait in endless lines. Check out the video slideshow that RocketNews24 put up showcasing the mind-blowing detail put into this model.
