ARROW’S John Barrowman Hints at Big Changes for Malcolm Merlyn

Back in Arrow season one, John Barrowman’s Malcolm Merlyn was the ultimate enemy of Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and he even assumed the role of the Dark Archer. But now that Merlyn is the new Ra’s al Ghul, he’s been a relatively consistent ally of Team Arrow. It’s weird, right? Next thing you know, Merlyn will be singing showtunes with Oliver.

But don’t count on that truce to last. According to Barrowman, there’s a major fight coming between Merlyn and and Oliver in the near future. “I’m not saying anything more, it’s a big fight, and that’s it!” said Barrowman while speaking to ComicBook.com. Barrowman also explained why Merlyn has been so friendly with Team Arrow.

“When he became Ra’s al Ghul, he was finally in charge of the League of Assassins, but what he really wanted to be doing was still manipulating who I’ll call the Team Oliver people,” Barrowman said. “You’ll have to watch to see what happens, because pretty soon a lot of things are going to change drastically.”

There are really only two people on Team Arrow whom Merlyn has shown an interest in: his daughter, Thea (Willa Holland) and Oliver himself. Even after manipulating Thea into killing Sara Lance (Caity Lotz), Merlyn has once again inserted himself into Thea’s life. And Oliver is particularly useful to Merlyn because he’s currently feuding with Damien Darhk (Neal McDonough), an adversary whom even the previous Ra’s al Ghul couldn’t defeat.

But if we’re speculating, a Lazarus pit would be an ideal way to heal Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), and Merlyn could potentially turn to her to help him find a new working Lazarus pit. That probably wouldn’t sit well with Oliver.
