Last spring, NBCâs Constantine was confronted by the one enemy that even the title character couldnât defeat: a cancellation order. Arrow star Stephen Amell was extremely vocal in support of Constantine and he even offered to appear in a guest spot as Oliver Queen if the series was renewed.
Today, word has come down that Matt Ryan will reprise his role as John Constantine in an episode of Arrow season 4. In a video message to Constantine and Arrow fans, Ryan said âThe rumors are true, John is coming to Starling City. See you next fall.â

Constantine ran for 13 episodes on NBC before the network declined to order the back nine episodes for a full season. Constantine showrunner Daniel Cerone and Warner Bros. TV attempted to find the series a new home on Syfy and other outlets before they were forced to release the cast from their contracts and concede defeat.
The Constantine series ended in the middle of the Rising Darkness story with a reveal about the identity of Constantineâs real adversary. But since the scale of Arrow is much decidedly smaller than Constantine’s apocalyptic arc, that storyline probably wonât be revisited on this series. At the very least, fans will see John Constantine in the TV universe that Arrow shares with The Flash, DCâs Legends of Tomorrow, and the Vixen animated series.
Arrow season 4 will premiere on Wednesday, October 7. A date for Ryanâs guest appearance was not included in the announcement.
