On Tuesday, Constantine fans received some very welcome news when it was announced that Matt Ryan will reprise his role as John Constantine in an upcoming episode of Arrow Season 4. However, anyone hoping for a regular guest role for Ryan may be out of luck. Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim has stressed that this is a âone-time-only-deal.â
“We are super-crazy excited about this,” added Guggenheim, before sharing some details about what brings John Constantine into the world of Arrow. Before we go any further, consider this your SPOILER WARNING!
We already knew that Caity Lotzâs Sara Lance would be resurrected at some point prior to the DCâs Legends of Tomorrow spinoff. But it turns out that Constantine will have a major role in Saraâs resurrection story in the fifth episode of the season.
“Unlike Thea, who wasnât fully dead, the consequences of using the [Lazarus] pit on someone as dead as Sara was creates some unforeseen difficulties,â noted Guggenheim. âAnd John Constantine is uniquely suited to help our team deal with those.”
Guggenheim seemed to hint that Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) is already aware of magic in the world. But John Diggle (David Ramsey) may have some…interesting reactions to Constantineâs presence.
“If you go back and rewatch Season 3, [Oliver] refers to having some experience with the mystical,â explained Guggenheim. âOliver knows that the world is a larger place than most people think. So the team will have one reaction, but Oliver will have more of an experienced reaction…Diggle has some choice lines, I will say that!â
Arrow returns to The CW on Wednesday, October 7.
