With all the Episode VII excitement lately, it’s easy to forget that at least three Star Wars spin-off films are coming our way. Disney has stated they plan to release a Star Wars film every year starting with Episode VII in December 2015. The idea is that the spin-offs will be released in between the installments of the sequel trilogy. Subjects of those spin-offs have been hotly debated by fans, but the rumor mill has turned up some strong possibilities.
German site Star Wars Union reports that one of their readers attended a recent training presentation from Hasbro, and that the working titles for the three spin-offs were revealed. It makes sense that a licensee like Hasbro would need to be in the know in order to plan ahead. But, that’s not what you care about. Here’s how the Star Wars schedule possibly looks through 2020:
Fall 2014: Rebels
2015: Episode VII
2016: Boba Fett
2017: Episode VIII
2018: Solo
2019: Episode IX
2020: Red Five
For spin-offs, we have Boba Fett, Solo, and Red Five. A Boba Fett movie is a no-brainer. The character is insanely popular with fans, and they could explore what he was up to in the time between the Clone Wars and the original trilogy. Actually, they could even show what Fett was doing during the original trilogy. There’s plenty of ground they could cover.
While it’s tempting to jump to the conclusion that Solo is focusing on the beloved smuggler, Han Solo, I’m not so sure. We could meet a Solo child (or children) in Episode VII, and the spin-off could focus on them. Because otherwise, what story will they tell? I don’t foresee Harrison Ford starring in a whole film, and if they go back and tell the story of pre-A New Hope Han Solo, he’ll obviously have to be recast. Those would be some rather big boots to fill.
Red Five sounds the most interesting to me. It was Luke Skywalker’s call sign so it could be about another Skywalker, but what if it’s about the Rogue Squadron in general? We could see what Wedge Antilles and company do after they destroy the Death Star. That has incredible potential for action, drama, heroics – all the great ingredients Star Wars mixes so well.
It’s also worth noting that Kathleen Kennedy has gone on record saying, “There is no attempt being made to carry characters (from the standalone films) in and out of the saga episodes.” Still, that could just be a red herring to throw us off the trail.

Look- this- this is just worrisome.I know that Chris has been on recorded as saying that he feels only a company with the clout of Disney could handle this franchise properly. But this looks greedy.Greedy b/c I can’t see how enough time has been invested in talent – planning and just sheer amount of work to produce this kind of volume of story and do it well.This maps out like a business plan and not a story.
And the ironic part is is you skimp on your story in the entertainment business your bottom line goes down.

Spin-offs? If there ever was a series that needed to ditch a few of its movies and reboot, it’s Star Wars. Three good movies followed by thirty years of disaster. If Lucas can scrap the original versions of the original three movies for his doctored up versions, disney should be able to justify scrapping the disastrous, hated prequels and make some new ones that tell more/different/better/compelling stories.
Yoda shouldn’t even need a light saber.CGI’d characters are never convincing and age worse.
Slashing millions of flimsy idiotic robots with laser swords carries no emotional weight.No fart jokes.No midiclorians.No cliches.No familiar actors.
Do it right.
