Archie Launches New JOSIE AND THE PUSSYCATS Series This Fall

Long before there was a Jem and the Holograms there was Josie and the Pussycats.

Archie Comics‘ modern re-imaginings of the Riverdale gang in the all-new Archie, Jughead, and Betty and Veronica series have been huge successes. Accordingly, the publisher is now adding one more revamped title to the Riverdale family, starring comics’ most famous all-girl rock group: Josie and the Pussycats. The all-new Josie and the Pussycats #1 launches on September 28th from the amazing creative team of co-writers Marguerite Bennett (DC Comics’ Bombshells), Cameron DeOrdio and artist Audrey Mok (Heroine Chic).

This new Josie and the Pussycats series is said to “explore the foundations of the friendships between Josie, Valerie, and Melody and their rivalry with Alexandra Cabot.” In a statement, new series writer Marguerite Bennett said “I am incredibly grateful and outrageously stoked to be working on Josie. Josie and the Pussycats is zany, high-energy, hilarious, and utterly sincere. The book can’t launch soon enough.”

Josie and the Pussycats was maybe the most successful of all Archie spin-offs — the comic had a popular animated series on Saturday mornings which ran from 1970-72, and even a spin-off series in 1973 called Josie and the Pussycats in Space. Younger fans might fondly remember the 2001 live-action Josie and the Pussycats movie which starred Rachael Leigh Cook, Tara Reid, and Rosario Dawson. It bombed on initial release but has gained quite a fan following over the years.

When the new series arrives in comic book stores this September, it will feature an assortment of variant covers from fan favorite artists including Veronica Fish, Francesco Francavilla, and several others. You can see some preview artwork for the new series below:
