Archie Comics Debuts Motion Comics Series with Spotify (Exclusive)

You’ve read the comics. You’ve watched TV series like Riverdale. You know everything there is to know about Archie, Betty, Veronica, and their pals. But are you ready to experience Archie Comics in a new way? We’re excited to exclusively share that Archie Comics is teaming up with Spotify to turn the beloved stories into a six episode video series created by Madefire. Motion comics based on Archie stories! What a gift.

Titled Spotlight Archie — The New Riverdale, the series will be based on the bestselling arc by writer Mark Waid and artists Fiona Staples, Annie Wu, and Veronica Fish. The first six issues will each get their own motion comic episode. They’re completely tricked out, with voice acting and music to complement the sequential art. These episodes were made to look especially amazing on mobile devices.

Why turn to motion comics? Well, why not? Particularly in a time when everyone is finding unique ways to tell and showcase their stories. Archie Comics Publisher/CEO Jon Goldwater said, “Archie has always been about trying to find new ways to get comics to fans and readers. And when the opportunity to work with Spotify arose, it was a perfect match. Being able to reposition these modern classics for new readers in this unique, motion comic format makes perfect sense and we can’t wait for fans to experience these beloved Archie stories in a new way.”

Excited to dive into antics with your Riverdale besties right now? Good, because you can watch the first episode on Spotify immediately.
