Fans of the animated and self-proclaimed “world’s greatest secret agent” Sterling Archer got a treat earlier this week when he bumped into Eggsy at Kingsman HQ but that wasn’t the only Archer news to come out of SDCC. The upcoming ninth season of the FXX show will see Archer and company head to “Danger Island.”
While the announcement for this news is a little sparse on the particulars, we’ve got a hunch on where things are headed. With last season, Archer Dreamland, taking place in 1947 LA as part of a dream Archer was having as he lay in a coma, the show can pretty much do whatever it wants now. Whether he wakes up or not, the series may be going back to its Hanna-Barbera roots by mirroring the 1968 live-action series Danger Island.
Die-hard fans of Archer will know things really started way back in the early days of Adult Swim with Sealab 2021 borrowing animation and themes from 1972’s Sealab 2020 and even (in a way) went back in the Sea Tunt episodes. So, it’s fitting that Archer may dip into Hanna-Barbera properties once again for the theme of their next season.
Danger Island was intended to be a sort of live-action Jonny Quest starring Jan-Michael Vincent and was directed by Richard Donner. Should the show pay homage to the old series throughout the season or at least recreate the opening credits with Archer characters–we’ll be happy campers.
