Now that Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has hit the big screen, the road has been paved for DCâs other solo heroes and heroines to make the much anticipated leap. Wonder Woman, the Justice League, and even The Flash may be going first, but Aquaman is finally going to get his shot at pop culture redemption.
Geoff Johns, Peter David, and other comic book creators spent decades rehabilitating Aquamanâs image in DCâs comic book universe. For the Aquaman film, itâs up to director James Wan to make the general public see the true potential of the title character. According to Wan, heâs already got some fun things in mind for the movie.
âThereâs always something kind of cool about Aquaman,â said Wan during an interview with /Film. âThe idea of creating a huge world that is on our planet. Thatâs the thing about Aquaman thatâs cool is heâs not an alien, right? Heâs from our planet and heâs from a society that weâre not privy to in the context of the story. Isnât it crazy to think that weâve explored space more than we have explored the depths of our ocean? That just fires up my imagination about potential sea monsters and cool creatures, that kind of stuff.â
Aquaman has a lot of history fighting sea monsters in his comic book series. More recently, an underwater race known as the Trench was added to Aquamanâs enemies. We think they would make great onscreen adversaries for Jason Momoaâs Aquaman and Amber Heardâs Mera.
