ANT-MAN Animated Shorts Are Coming to Disney XD

If Edgar Wright‘s Ant-Man hadn’t spent so many years in development, then Scott Lang’s alter ego could have been one of the first heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But apparently it’s never too late to be a breakout star! The first Ant-Man movie has a sequel set for next year, and now Marvel‘s smallest superhero is getting some animated adventures as well.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Disney XD will premiere a series of animated shorts starring Ant-Man beginning next month.  The shorts will take their cues from the MCU Ant-Man, and they will also feature the Wasp and Hank Pym. Additionally, EW has debuted the first pic of the animated Ant-Man.

Ant-Man will be voiced by Josh Keaton, an actor who has previously played Green Lantern, the Flash, and even Spider-Man. [Editor’s Note: let us not forget Shiro in Netflix’s Voltron, hmm?] The rest of the voice cast wasn’t included in the announcement, but the six shorts were written by Brian Wysol and directed by Ugo Bienvenu and Kevin Manach. The animation is being produced by Passion Pictures, the studio that makes animated music videos for The Gorillaz. Last year, Passion Pictures also made animated shorts for Rocket Raccoon and Groot.

The first three shorts will premiere on Disney XD on Saturday, June 10 at 7:58 am, 11:58 am and 2:58 pm EST, with the remaining three shorts debuting on Sunday, June 11 at 11:28 am, 5:28 pm, and 8:58 pm EST. It’s unclear if this means Ant-Man could potentially headline his own animated series as well, but his chances will probably improve if these shorts are well received.
