It would appear that Sony Interactive Entertainment has taken a page out of the book of the folks over at Lucasfilm, not bothering to wait until after the release of its next title before announcing development on another. Although Sony’s Sonic Boom: Fire & Ice still has another few months before making its way to the public, it appears that an entirely separate Sonic the Hedgehog game has already been conceived and green-lighted.
Takashi Iizuka, the head of Sony’s Sonic Team, reportedly shared this news with the Japanese video game magazine Famitsu in a conversation that was translated by Soah City and shared by IGN. Iizuka said, “We at Sonic Team â are developing a completely new game, as well as developing a full movie, actively done by Sony Pictures, and animation on Sonic Boom.” We’ve been anticipating both the aforementioned film and the forthcoming third installment of the Sonic Boom spin-off game series, but this mention of yet another game is fresh news.
Granted, we know nothing just yet about the game, including whether it’ll be part of the Sonic Boom line or the central Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Still, this news straight from the Mobian horse’s mouth is something to get excited about… as if an imminent title and a long-awaited feature film weren’t enough.
Are  you excited by the prospect of a brand new Sonic the Hedgehog game? Perhaps one that returns Sonic, Tails, and company to the franchise’s central storyline? Let us know in the comments below!
