We are going to bet it will be real hard for you to be bummed after watching this sincere, touching duet of Cyndi Lauper‘s classic song “True Colors,” performed by Justin Timberlake and Anna Kendrick.
The two sang their sweet version of the song in Cannes as part of the promotion for Dreamworks Animation‘s upcoming musical, Trolls, which stars the two of them as the little, wild-haired dolls (not horrible internet commenters) who “must embark on an adventure that takes them far beyond the only world they’ve ever known.”
In this video from JoBlo Movie Trailers, we actually get to see the two of them rehearsing backstage first, with Timberlake playing one of two acoustic guitars, before they perform for an audience. Their cover is a little softer than Lauper’s version, but still feels very true to the original.
So why this song? The easy money is that it will be in the movie and included on the film’s soundtrack. The first teaser certainly was colorful enough that the imagery of a rainbow doesn’t feel like much of a stretch either.
It was just last week that Timberlake released a new song, “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” that will also appear on the Trolls soundtrack.
Trolls, which has a mega-cast that includes Gwen Stefani, John Cleese, Zooey Deschanel, and Jeffrey Tambor to name a few, is co-directed by Mike Mitchell and Walt Dohrn (Shrek) and is scheduled for release November 4.
