Andy Samberg, Jon Hamm Launch New Movie Franchises on BILLY ON THE STREET

Is Hollywood struggling for original franchise ideas? Well we are about to get our third new Spiderman reboot in 15 years, so yeah, maybe the industry is becoming a little stale. Which is why the-one-and-only Billy Eichner took to the streets of New York City along with some very famous friends—and also some forgotten characters, logos, and mascots—to launch some fresh superhero ideas for a public craving originality.

In a segment from his show Billy on the Street, where Eichner speaks to/bull-rushes/terrifies unsuspecting pedestrians with questions, proposals, and trivia, he set out with Brooklyn Nine-Nine‘s Andy Samberg to sell some big, fresh movie franchise idea. And nothing quite says “fresh” and “new” like casting Samberg as MySpace Tom. You remember Tom, everyone’s old “friend” back from when MySpace was a thing that (sorta) competed with Facebook instead of being a cyber cemetery of forgotten bands and mediocre comedians, right? Well the bad news is Tom hasn’t forgotten you, and he’s pissed.

But if a man who was abandoned by literally every friend in the world isn’t your cup of tea, how about the Starbucks logo mermaid as a new cinematic character? Or the fishing boy from the Dreamworks logo? Maybe you’d be into movies about Blake Lively’s New York assistant?

But Eichner’s plans are much bigger than that, like having Jon Hamm star as the cross over character Dr. Strange, Medicine Woman, or as the New Yorker logo. And wouldn’t you go see Lupita Nyong’o star as the NBC peacock?

Of course you would, because at this point, we get it, Spiderman was bitten by a spider. So over that.

But what we don’t know is how that peacock got such a cushy job with NBC. Now that story has “franchise” written all over it.

Which one of these many ridiculous characters would actually work as the main character in a movie franchise? Yell your answers at us in the comments below.
