And Now For Some Over The Top Gags in the DUMB & DUMBER TO Trailer

Moviegoers of 2014 are largely accustomed to the increasingly realistic and personal narrative trends that cinema has witnessed in the past two decades. Niether of those categories, however, could ever really describe 1994’s Dumb & Dumber. A farcical, over-the-top comedy of the silliest order, Dumb & Dumber stands as a breakout performance for Jim Carrey, showcasing his comedic prowess, and offered Jeff Daniels’ first, big foray into sight gags and physical bits. 20 years later, amidst a parade of dramedies and gritty adaptations of genre fare, Carrey and Daniels are back at their hijinks as Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne in the aptly titled sequel, Dumb & Dumber To. The Farrelly Brothers, who wrote and directed the original, are returning for the sequel, set for a nationwide release on November 14.

The first trailer for Dumb & Dumber To premiered last night on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon during Carrey and Daniels’ appearance, and the clip does not disappoint with its gags. It was surprising that the trailer made it on to network TV in its entirety despite the potentially NSFW nature of the trailer’s final scene.

In the score of years between Dumb & Dumber and Dumb & Dumber To, Jim and Jeff have made plenty of projects that are decidedly different. You might remember Carrey’s part in Michel Gondry’s Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind where he played the most reserved role of his career. More recently, you’ve seen Jeff Daniels as the unflappable Will McAvoy on Aaron Sorkin’s Emmy-winning The Newsroom. The distance of their filmography over two decades from those unruly haircuts and almost unbelievably dumb shenanigans makes Dumb & Dumber To, as Carrey said with his tongue jutting out like an iguana. on The Tonight Show, “a phenomenon.”
