Last year, comedian Amy Schumer had her first cinematic leading role in Trainwreck, which she also wrote. But now, Schumer is branching out to her first drama project.
Schumer has reportedly joined the cast Thank You For Your Service, an adaptation of David Finkelâs non-fiction novel about U.S. soldiers struggling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder after returning home from combat in Iraq. American Sniper screenwriter Jason Hall is making his directorial debut with Thank You For Your Service, which also features Miles Teller, Haley Bennett, Joe Cole, Beulah Koale, Scott Haze, and Keisha Castle-Hughes.
The initial report didnât specify whom Schumer will play in Thank You For Your Service, but production is already under way. With this news, Schumer joins something of a Hollywood tradition of comedians who have tried their hands at dramatic acting. Many comic greatsâincluding Robin Williams, Steve Martin, Jim Carrey, Kristen Wiig, Bill Murray, Richard Pryorâ have jumped back and forth between comedy and drama films during the peak years of their careers.
Schumerâs previous acting experience has largely been on television with guest spots on Delocated, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Girls, and a starring role on her sketch comedy series, Inside Amy Schumer. Back in 2015, Schumer and Jennifer Lawrence revealed plans to star together in a film which they will co-write with Schumerâs sister, Kim. However, that movie has not yet officially moved forward.
