Amy Poehler Saves Christmas in Unaired SNL Sketch

As Ryan Gosling demonstrated when he hosted Saturday Night Live a few weeks ago, things don’t always go as planned on the late night staple. Not only can people break on screen, some sketches don’t even get to make it to the screen. This sketch, cut from last week’s episode, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, is an excellent example.

Titled, “Christmas at Nana’s,” the sketch stars Poehler and Kyle Mooney as brother and sister whose fighting gets them put into time out. Their mother, Kate McKinnon, tells them to settle their differences so they can go downstairs and open their presents. Well, let’s be honest, it’s so she can open her presents. This made me question my own childhood for a second. When my parents got mad at me, was it because of what I had done, or because of what I caused them to miss? Hmmm…

Poehler and Mooney then go into the typical bickering war that most of us with siblings have gone through at least once in our lives, not before being constantly interrupted and yelled at by McKinnon. They eventually reconcile, and like many of SNL’s digital shorts ends with a twist that makes both zero sense and all the sense in the world.

So what do you think? Should they have bumped another sketch for this one? Does this sibling argument bring up any unresolved issues with your own family? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
