There’s a certain and significant sect of Saturday Night Live fans who maintain an unending love for the show’s early 2000s era, championing this chapter as the best in SNL history. It’s hard to blame them, considering that period produced greats like Tina Fey, Fred Armisen, Jimmy Fallon, and the incredible duo of Seth Meyers and Amy Poehler.
Among the Weekend Update cohosts’ great contributions to the series was a segment called “Really!?!,” in which they incredulously talked about current events. Poehler joined Meyers as a guest on his talk show Late Night yesterday, so they took the opportunity to revive the segment in light of protesters who interrupted a Donald Trump-inspired Shakespeare in the Park production of Julius Caesar.
It was Meyers who came in with the best quip, saying that Caesar and Trump aren’t that comparable because Caesar was revered by his people:
âAnd really, if this portrayal was offensive to anyone, itâs Caesar. Caesar was beloved by the Roman Empire. To put it another way, he won the popular vote. He was so popular we donât use his name for pizza, we use it for pizza-pizza. The only thing Caesar and Trump have in common is they both have casinos named after them. And really you could tell that Caesar wasnât really Trump because the Senate stabbed him instead of just passing his sh-tty health care bill.â
The whole segment was a delight, especially for SNL nostalgists, so check it out above and share your favorite burns in the comments below.
