Amiibo Support Coming To SUPER SMASH BROS. 3DS This Week

There’s been a ton of folks who have gone on intense scavengers hunts tracking down Nintendo’s amiibo figures, simply to stockpile them as part of a growing collection. Additionally, there’s a large portion of these individuals who have no plans whatsoever on taking those figurines outside of their packaging. Sounds like a waste of a fun time, if you ask me. But for those who are utilizing their amiibos to the greatest extent, you’ll be happy to know that Super Smash Bros. 3DS will be adopting the same amiibo support seen in its Wii U counterpart.

“A free update will also be released on 10th February for Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS that will enable amiibo from the Super Smash Bros. Collection to be used with the new systems,” Nintendo stated in a press release earlier. Players will now be able to take their amiibo figures (or in-game headaches in our case) off of the big screen and onto the miniature dual screens, saving statistics and other Smash elements without a hitch along the way.

Of course, this feature will only be available on the New Nintendo 3DS XL, which is currently the only iteration of the portable with amiibo support. You can pick up the newest version of the portable in stores this Friday, alongside the titles The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D and Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
